Capital International Group would like to formally welcome our new Operations Director, Gavin Parry to the Group. The Group had the pleasure to sit down with Gavin for a quick Q&A and get a glimpse into his life, from working life to solo skydives’.

Tell us about your career in 30 seconds?

Despite only having worked for two employers in over 23 years in the Insurance sector, I’ve been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to turn my hand to a variety of roles and, in doing so, I’ve built up a decent and transferable tool kit. In recent years, my primary focus has been Operational improvement and Transformation activities, which have given me great freedom to challenge historical working practices and lead fresh, new ways of approaching service. It was a huge decision for me to leave Old Mutual International after 18 years, but what really appealed to me about Capital International is their ambition to pioneer new services, champion change and drive transformation and I’m really looking forward to being a part of achieving those goals.

Favourite pastime?

Golf and spending time with my family.

Football or Rugby?

Football now that Mourinho’s gone.

Favourite quote?

It’s never too late to try something new.

What do you find most enjoyable in your profession?

The People – experiencing different personalities, approaches and ways of thinking presents so many opportunities to guide and learn.

How long have you been based in the Isle of Man?

Since birth.

What do you find unique about Capital?

Since I’ve joined I’ve been really heartened to see how everyone I’ve met throughout the organisation is so focussed and committed to the betterment of themselves and the company.

What is your biggest accomplishment or proudest memory to date?

Family aside it would have to be getting my solo Skydive licence at the age of 41.

Who did you look up to growing up?

Perhaps a little cliché but my parents have always been my inspiration. Now as a parent, myself I have even more admiration for how easy they made it look.

What advice would you give to your 18 year-old self?

Set a Perm, style a Mohican, grow a Mullet because in 20 years’ time you’ll only be able to wax and polish!

Capital International Group is delighted to have Gavin as part of the team and looks forward to following his dynamic contribution to the company.
