The Huruma Project

Huruma Childrens Trust is an orphanage that is located in Arusha, the capital of the region of the same name in northern Tanzania. The orphanage was set up in 2012 and is home to around 50 children of varying ages, many who have lost their parents to HIV/AIDS and have been in the orphanage since being babies as they have no family for support.
The orphanage provides these children with basic education, vocational training and a safe place to live. They also help the children to integrate back into society and to find work when they are old enough to do so.

In August 2022, Capital International made a Conscious Capital donation to support the orphanage. Together with an additional donation from the parishioners of Woodford Catholic parish in London, this money was used to purchase a piece of land which adjoins the existing orphanage buildings. Then in December 2022, CIG and the Woodford parish completed the purchase of the existing orphanage buildings for an additional sum, and in so doing we have secured the orphanage for current and future generations of children.

A team of 10 volunteers from both the IOM & SA offices will be travelling to Arusha in September 2023 to spend ten days in Tanzania travelling through the country, working with the orphans, fencing the adjoining land and helping to create better facilities for the children and their careers.
