Who are the Souper Troopers?

Souper Troopers helps people living on the streets of Cape Town to make sustainable changes in their living circumstances. Since early 2021, Souper Troopers has operated a service centre, The Humanity Hub, at which they provide a comprehensive range of services to Troopers committed to personal development. Our overarching ethos is DIGNITY, LOVE & RESPECT in all that we do.

In the charity's early years (2014–2019) of monthly social events between homeless and homefull people, Souper Troopers earned a solid reputation of trustworthiness among the thousands of people living on the streets of Cape Town which helped them to understand their realities. The Humanity Hub is the logical progression from these early years: once they understood the type of support the Troopers needed, they set about turning that into a sustainable model.

Souper Troopers' psycho-social development model involves an experienced fieldwork team working with each Trooper individually using our CAST model: CONNECT | ASSESS | SUPPORT | TRANSFORM. There are hundreds of Troopers working towards their the CAST journey, and Souper Troopers employ some of them as part of a job creation initiative.

The Souper Squad

Since the beginning of 2022, Souper Troopers have been part of a stipend project initiated by the City of Cape Town for temporary employment of people living on the streets coupled with psychosocial development services. After starting with 25 stipend employees, the Souper Squad now has 35 employees who are all Troopers at different stages of their CAST model journey. Souper Troopers receive City funding via Khulisa Social Services to employ these Troopers in different capacities. Some work in the Bo Kaap Helpers Garden, a community garden the charity has partnered with; others form part of the fieldwork and building maintenance team at The Humanity Hub, while many make African Worry Dolls to sell. Souper Troopers sell two products in their Souper Market – African Worry Dolls and Troopers coffee. All proceeds from these sales go towards the services we provide.

DITO's Partnership

DITO Business Solutions offer a hybrid outsourcing model which uses a blended team approach of both onshore and offshore team members, ensuring strong oversight and collaboration, whilst increasing output at a more cost-effective blended cost. DITO partnered with Souper Troopers in 2022, after being introduced to Souper Troopers through business dealings with CIG. DITO is dedicated to providing as much support as possible, with initiatives such as organising & distributing year-end ‘essential item’ gift bags. The DITO Call Centre Academy was also recently launched which includes energising and practical workshops whichprovide troopers with the both the knowledge & confidence required to succeed within an office environment. The 12 week course includes enhanced training on customer service skills & key principles of telephone-based work.

Capital International's Partnership

An award-winning financial services Group headquartered in the Isle of Man, Capital International Group (CIG) has supported Souper Troopers over a number of years as part of ‘Conscious Capital’, CIG’s ESG manifesto, and this partnership is an integral part of CIG's culture. With support from the IOM & SA teams as well as regular financial contributions, the partnership is wide-ranging and ever-evolving. CIG has assisted Souper Troopers in formulating their strategic planning and regularly provide a platform for them to promote their work and the benefits of corporate-partnering to the business community. Our teams in South Africa and the Isle of Man have attended volunteering days with the Souper Squad, working with those who have benefited most from the work that Souper Troopers do, and our fundraising initiatives have included 5-a-side football tournaments, winter warmth collections & sponsored sleep-outs.

We are all human. We all have a story.
Together we are the change.
